Cosmetic Brow Tattoos are not suitable for clients who are or have any of the following:

  • Under the age of 18 years old
  • Over the age of 60 years old (thin skin is not suitable for tattoo)
  • Pregnant
  • Breast feeding (must wait 6 weeks post feeding before proceeding)
  • Diabetic
  • Undergoing Chemotherapy (consult with your doctor)
  • Taking blood thinning medication
  • Viral infections (diseases)
  • Had Botox within 3 weeks prior to the appointment
  • Epilepsy
  • Pacemaker or major heart problems
  • Prone to scarring or keloids
  • Used Accutane in the past 6 months
  • Have existing brow tattoo (please see brow corrections page)

Preparation for your appointment

Preparation for your appointment is just as important as the aftercare. Failing to follow the below instructions will compromise your final results.

  • DO NOT consume alcohol, caffeine or take any blood thinners (Aspirin, Ibuprofen) for 48 HOURS before your procedure, this will cause excess bleeding and will affect your final results.
  • Stop using any skin thinners (Vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Any waxing or brow shaping should be done at least 7 days before.
  • If you tint your brows, tint it at least one week prior to the procedure.
  • Cosmetic botox or fillers should be done 3 weeks prior or 3 weeks after.
  • Do not work out on the day of the procedure.
  • We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores, and moles in or around the brow area due to infection.
PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot commit to the preparation, aftercare and healing period, please do not proceed with booking your appointment. As these instructions are important for the best ‘healed’ results possible. Compromising these instructions can result to patchy, uneven eyebrows or worst-case scenario infection during the healing period.

TIPS for preparation

  • You may come in with your makeup on and how you normally draw in your brows so I can see what shape you are used too. This is especially important for clients who desire a specific brow shape.
  • If you get lash extensions done, it is recommended to have them refilled before your appointment so your lash technician does not need to rest her hands on the treated area while your brows are healing.
  • If you have a Botox appointment 3 weeks before or after your appointment, you will need to reschedule this.
  • Please note you may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle.

Aftercare of your new brows!

After care is crucial, it is very important to follow these instructions for the full 10-day healing period to ensure proper healing and colour retention. Results will vary for all individuals and we cannot guarantee your results when working with different skin types.

  • For the first 48 hours after your treatment, it is important to let your new brows DRY HEAL. This means absolutely no products including moisturisers, makeup, and creams on the treated area.
  • After the first 48 hours, please apply the ointment provided to your brows at nighttime starting night 2. A very small amount (size of a piece of rice) to each brow with clean fingers. And continuing this for a week after.

During the entire healing process (up to 10 days) it is important to completely avoid the following:

  • No exercise or sweating.
  • No brow products or makeup on the healing area.
  • No facial sun exposure including solariums.
  • No facial laser treatments, skin treatments or facials.
  • No soaking of the brows with water.
  • No picking, lifting the scabs or touching the brows.

How long is the healing process?

The average healing period is 7-10 days but it does a take a minimum of 4 weeks for the colour to fully set in and you must wait a full month to see a final colour result. Please make sure you do not book your appointments when you have any events or holidays on two weeks following your procedure as you cannot wear makeup in the brow/forehead region, cannot exercise, cannot be in the sun exposure and you cannot wet the brow area for a minimum of 10 days. Please also keep in mind, the healing and aftercare process is the same instructions at your Touch Up appointment.

What if I have existing or faded brow tattoo from another salon?

If you have existing brow tattoo, this will need to be assessed before you book an appointment online as not every tattoo can be corrected, no matter how old the tattoo is. Some tattoos are more difficult to cover depending on their shape, scar tissue, colour and may require tattoo removal before having them covered with Ombre. For any existing brow tattoo, please book a consultation online through our booking system. This is a requirement before we can proceed. You can only book in your brow tattoo once your brows have been assessed in person and we have agreed to correct your brows.

How long does it last?

Many different factors play a role in the lifespan of your brow pigment.
Clients skin type plays the biggest role in longevity and the general outcome of the procedure. Most clients get colour touch ups 12-18 months from their last touch up.

Aggressive skin treatments such as laser, chemical peel, dermabrasion etc can shorten the lifespan of your cosmetic brows and require touch ups sooner.

Does it hurt?

For your comfort, I apply anastethic to the skin once it has been broken. Most clients would say the procedure isn't painful, but can be uncomfortable (especially if its during your menstrual cycle) and can more so feel pressure from my hands. I've never had someone in so much discomfort that I've been asked to stop the treatment.

What does the appointment include?

After completing your treatment forms and take photos of your brows, we then begin by mapping out your new brow shape with makeup and use various measuring devices to create ideal symmetry between both eyebrows. This can take up to 30-45 minutes to shape them until we are both happy! I then complete the outline with the machine, numb the area and proceed to shade the brows. Once we are finished, we will take some photos and videos to show off your bomb brows and I'll provide you with aftercare instructions and the cream you will apply at home.

What to expect from your first appointment and Touch Up

As Ombre Brows are low maintenance, not a no maintenance treatment, you will need Touch Up appointments as they naturally fade overtime.

  • After your first session, you will need to allow your brows a MINIMUM of 6 weeks to heal before booking a touch up. It's takes a full 4 weeks for the colour to settle.
  • The first session is used to build shape and gain symmetry and the second session is used to perfect the brows and add density.
  • Do not expect perfect results after the first session.
  • Please keep in mind; this can be sometimes a 3-step process. Cosmetic tattooing is a process and some clients may need multiple sessions to achieve their desired result.
  • Darker skin and oily skin women, permanent makeup will not look as bold or sharp compared to lighter, dryer skin type clients.

Do I need a Touch Up session?

Touch Ups are highly recommended as this is the final step for your brows. We can fill in any gaps or alter the healed colour. You can always find the pricing for a Touch Up session on the Services page and if you are unsure of what time you fall under, please Contact Us.

When do I book my first Touch Up session?

It is always recommended to book your Touch Up after booking your first session online to avoid missing out on the Touch Up price up to 6-12 weeks. You can also do this in person after your initial appointment but can not always guarantee your desired availability.

  • It is your responsibility to book your touch up appointments and recommended to be done within the first 12 weeks after your initial appointment.
  • If you push back your touch up appointments and it exceeds the time frame you have booked in for, you will be charged for the following touch up time frame.

Can I have my brows Touched Up at another salon?

If you have had your brows done previously with us at Brooke Sutherland Beauty and choose to go elsewhere for a Touch Up afterwards, please note that you will no longer be considered a "Touch Up" price and as a "Colour Correction"due to another artist altering your brows. This is due to another artist using different brands, pigment colours, techniques and can not always be guaranteed we can fix the work from another salon.

Do I have to do the same preparation & aftercare for a Touch Up?

YES! It is so important to follow the same preparation and aftercare that you did for your initial session for your Touch Up appointment. I am completing the same procedure so it is so important to not skip out on your prep or aftercare for a Touch Up.

What is included in a Brow Wax appointment?

A Brow Wax appointment includes a trim, tweeze and optional brow tint (additional $5) and we will also show you how to fill in your brows.

How long does the appointment go for?

The appointment is a 30 minute booking so we can ensure you leave with super clean, fleeky brows!

Suitability for Brow Waxing

Unfortunately not everyone's skin type is suitable for waxing. This would include anyone using the following:

  • Retinol
  • Vitamin A products
  • If you have had a chemical peel or facial 48 hours prior
  • If you have had Botox in your forehead/eyebrow area 7 days prior
  • Extremely dry or irritated skin

Can I have a Brow Tint if I have had a fake tan?

It is not recommended to have a Brow Tint applied on top of fake tan as the colour can change to undesired green undertone. If you have an event coming up, it is recommended to have any facial waxing done 3 days prior to your spray tan.

I have an event that I need my brows done for, when should I book?

If this is your first time visiting us, it is highly recommended to come get your brows waxed and tinted a minimum of 5-7 days prior to your event. If you are an existing client and are coming for a refresh, 3-4 days is suitable.

Brow Dye vs Brow Tint

If you prefer a bolder. full looking brow I would highly recommend booking a Brow Dye session with one of our artists. Brow Dye can retain on the skin up to 10 days and on the hair up to 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately brow tint doesn't last as long but is more suitable for the girls who prefer a softer looking brow.

What is non-laser tattoo removal?

At Brooke Sutherland Beauty we use Li-FT by Li Pigments, a safe, non-acid, high salt based and fruit seed extract solution that deems extremely effective in pigment lightening and removal. Also known as saline tattoo removal.

How is it performed?

If you’re familiar with the Ombre brows procedure, its done very similar by using a digital machine but with a large needle size to break down the unwanted pigment by the process called Osmosis.

Am I suitable for the treatment?

I wouldn’t recommend saline tattoo removal to the following individuals: • Under the age of 18 years • Severe Anxiety disorders
• Pregnant or breast feeding
• Epilepsy • Prone to scarring or keloids • Fitzpatrick skin types V & VI • Prone to Hypo or Hyperpigmentation
• Uncontrolled diabeties • Blood clotting problems
• Undergoing chemotherapy (Please advise doctor before going through procedure)
• Viral infections or diseases
• Accutane use in the past 6 months
• Had lip fillers within the 3 weeks
• Eczema on the area of procedure
• Chemical peels within the last two weeks

How many sessions are needed?

Every individuals journey on tattoo removal is different and hard to say how many sessions you will need until your first one session has healed. In my experience, I’ve never had to do more than 4 sessions on an individual until they were ready to have the brows tattooed again with a Correction Brow appointment.

How long is the healing period?

It is best to allow 7-10 days for the healing period and can look similar to Ombre Brow healing with the scabs starting to form around day 3-4. You must follow your aftercare instructions during the entire healing time. Please keep in mind, you have to wait a minimum of 8 weeks in between each removal session for optimum healing results and not to overwork the skin.

How do I know if I need a removal session?

I have found that Saline Removal is most effective in clients who have pink/salmon/red brow tattoo from old microblading. Also clients that have undergone multiple laser sessions that now need the remaining colour to be removed through a non-laser method due to their brow hair colour being too dark to continue with laser therapy. If you are unsure if you need a removal session, please book a "Brow Consultation" online so we can assess your current brows and advise if you need removal or can proceed with a correction brow tattoo.

Can I have removal if my brows are a reddish/pink colour?

This can be a tricky one as the reddish/pink colour can either be scarring or faded pigment. This will need to be assessed in person by your artist before having a session booked in. If your brows are blue, grey, green, purple or black/brown toned, this treatment would be suitable.

Will the removal sessions fade away to nothing, like before I got my brows tattooed?

Unfortunately not, once you have pigment implanted into your skin, your skin will never go back to its original state. Even though some clinics claim their brow tattoo is semi-permanent, you will always have some unwanted pigment retain in the skin. Don’t let this deter you from the treatment as some healed results can appear nearly completely faded when shadowed by hair growth.

What is the aftercare for the treatment?

You will be provided with aftercare instructions at the time of your appointment, but please keep in mind for 7-10 days you will need too: - Keep the area clean and dry (no covering the area)
- Do not wet or soak the treated area
- No picking or scratching the brows
- No exercise or sweating
- No makeup or skincare on the brow area It is totally normal for your brows to feel tender, sore and appear red for a few days following your treatment.

How long is the time inbetween removal to getting new brows tattooed?

This all depends on how your skin recovers from the removal treatments you have been receiving. It can be a minimum wait of 6-12 months after finishing your removal treatments before you can proceed with a new brow tattoo. This is due to the skin not being fully healed and continuing with a new tattoo will result in most likely cool in toned once healed or the skin fully rejecting the implanted pigment. You need to understand if we say you need to wait a minimum amount of time before proceeding with a new brow, that we are doing this to protect your skin and your expectations of healed results.

Who is suitable for Lip Blush?

Lip blush is not recommended for clients who are or have any of the following: • Under the age of 18 years • Over the age of 60 years (due to thin skin) • Severe Anxiety disorders
• Pregnant or breast feeding
• Epilepsy • Hypo or Hyperpigmentation
• Uncontrolled diabeties • Blood clotting problems
• Undergoing chemotherapy (Please advise doctor before going through procedure)
• Viral infections or diseases
• Accutane use in the past six months
• Had lip fillers within the 3 weeks
• Eczema on the area of procedure
• Chemical peels within the last two weeks (Please wait until 2 weeks to book your appointment)
• Cold sores: If you are prone to cold sores, lip tattooing can cause outbreaks. It is your responsibility to take your prescribed anti-viral medication from your doctor a few days prior to your appointment and after the procedure to prevent any cold sores. If you have an outbreak on your lips, we ask that you reschedule your appointment.

What is the healing process?

For the first 7 days post your lip blush appointment:

  • Avoid sun exposure for 7 days after your appointment
  • Avoid all facial treatments including chemical peels or exfoliation
  • Please avoid swimming or submerging the area in water for long periods of time during the first week
  • Use the cream provided to you to keep the tattoo protected while it heals and to soothe any discomfort such as itching or dryness
  • Avoid applying lip balms, lipstick, and any other lip products during this time
  • Apply your cream several times during the day for the first week to keep your lips moisturised
  • AVOID touching the tattooed area with your hands.
  • Apply all recommended products with cotton tips ONLY
  • f the area must be touched with hands, ensure you thoroughly wash your hands before and after touching the tattooed area.
And please remember, do NOT pick off your scabs! You will damage the skin and pull off premature skin that will affect your final results. Proper aftercare will ensure the formation of thin scabs has more color retention.

Does the procedure hurt?

Topical anesthetic is applied before the procedure to minimize any discomfort. However, sensitivity differs from person to person. It is common to feel more discomfort if you are on your menstrual cycle. Do not take any blood thinners such as (Ibuprofen or Aspirin) 24 hours before the procedure.

I am prone to cold sores, does this affect my treatment?

Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo. If you are prone to or have had a cold sores in the past - we advise you to go to the doctor or your local chemist for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak.

How long does Lip Blush last?

Colour retention depends on skin type, age, aftercare, sun exposure, use of certain products, pigments used, the immune system, medications, and other factors. However, generally the colour lasts about 2 years. Touch ups are recommended once every 6 months to 1-2 years to prevent natural fading.

Preparation for your Lip Blush appointment

It is extremley important that your lips cannot be dry for the appointment. If you attend your booking and they are too dry to work with, we will need to reschedule and you will forfeit your deposit. You need to exfoliate 3 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin. You can use a lip scrub (I recommend the Lush lip scrubs or Frank Body) or create your own using a little honey and brown sugar. For the week leading up to the appointment you must moisturize your lips as much as possible (I recommend using Nipple Balm (Dr.Lipp has a great one from Mecca). It is also important to not have any coffee, alcohol, energy drinks or pre works out for 48 ours prior to your appointment to avoid bleeding.

Aftercare & what to expect after your treatment

After your lip blush appointment, it is normal that your lips will feel swollen and very dry. Apply your aftercare cream on your lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 7 days post treatment. Do not allow your lips to become dry so carry your cream with you everywhere! During the day if lips feel dry, apply a liberal amount of ointment. Just tap on skin and do not rub in. Always use a clean cotton tip, not fingers to apply the cream to the lips area. This will reduce the risk of infection.

After lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flaky, this is normal to happen around day 3-4 post treatment. Please do not pick or scratch at them, this will significantly reduce the amount of colour retention. Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing. Once the lips have stopped flaking, (which can take up to a week) you are able to go back to your normal makeup routine and apply lipstick or balms.
